Sir Caine and Mr. Freeman for most part did not manage to do anything better than the begins. I liked Aaron Eckhart in parts. The new Rachel Dawes was definitely better than the previous one but nothing spectacular. Batman - is helplessly loosing confidence. Bruce tries his best to do something about what is going on - But was more confident in the "Begins. May be he is aging or loosing his spirit over time. Joker is portrayed as a mindless dark humored being bringing batman to his knees... Joker's acting is alright and well contained with no complaints. Nolan continues his mind games he started with Memento. His "begins" presented us an installment of mental weakness - how Bruce fights it... Here Bruce is shown giving in to a mindless brute who is mindfully playing the cards. So what makes Dark Knight that special - Well The Heath Ledger Surprise - He blew every one before he blew himself and proved Brokeback was not a flash in the pan. His portrayal of Nolan's take on Joker came as a complete surprise. And that alone sets the mood. A menace that is simply going out of control. "Even" batman has to give in. I still think it was Nolan's take - But Ledger gave his own identity to it. Spectacular performance - I cannot comprehend. (Again only because I did not expect it from a guy like Ledger. Though Nolan tried his best to choke you with emotions - I still think the movie was a little lengthy - But do not know where to chop. Music - photography and everything else was in place. (Take the joker's performance out - and there is little to the movie) I heard people comparing Ledger with Mr. Nicholson - I wonder why Jack did not think in these lines - Do not know how much artistic freedom he had at that time... nevertheless - I liked Heath's portrayal. As much as I liked Dan in Casino Royale. Good Job Nolan - pulling off another successful Batman installment. Let batman be a man - use his mind to play his opponents in the next installment. Sometimes it gets hard giving in is not a solution.
