★★★★★★★★

Gotta admit... when I saw 1:51 I was just. dammit...

This was an incredible feat. Every single person who worked on these movies should be so proud! There's a reason these movies don't age and its the attention to detail and special effort put towards realism. The Hobbit movies just do not make the cut.

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened. Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

Omg I'm scared.

Aragorn: We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left. Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let's hunt some Orc. Gimli: YES! Legolas: they are taking the hobbits to isengard! XD. He cant die for a90. We have video made by an expert in. elvish LMAO. Sam: That theres some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And its worth fighting for. 1x21 Julie Milton was date rowdy rudy. This is great. This is mainly for Gandalf when he visits Bilbo and Freddo. Middle Earth is a wacky place with bizarre cultures co-existing illogically without any kind of interacting economic/political or social structure. Ruling Wizards just live in big dark fortresses and have armies who do their bidding on a whim. Orc soldiers need their general to be born in a puddle of lava-like ooze, and then run for miles non stop in heavy black armor on sunny days only to get promptly dispatched by two warriors' ho-hum display of Errol Flynnery. Elves have beautiful digs but no hint of how they built them or maintain them. Wringwraiths, about the most inept posse of idiots since the Keystone Cops, looked like they'd have done better to steal that farmer's scythe and fight over who should stand in line for the grim reaper's job after he meets himself. The hobbits all look like they fell out of Dickens while the tavern/inn scene looks like something out of a 17th century pirate movie. This as the rest of the film's look is ostensibly dark ages when not outright fairy-tale. There is A LOT wrong with this picture!
I never read Lord of the Rings all the way through (never held my interest) but I agree with others who say a movie should stand on its own. If the story can't make a decent three act movie, why bloody adapt it. Harry Potter is another example of a wildly successful book turned into a completely plotless movie. Hasn't anyone learned anything after Dune was adapted into a slow moving incomprehensible mess in 1984?
To say the three Lord of the Rings films can't be condensed into a shorter running time is bosh. This first film is a sprawling bore and explains nothing about the characters and cultures it insists we meet. A little bit of back story, sub text and a less lazy writer could have fashioned something more concise, logical and entertaining. As it is this movie is not good. It has its moments, but moments don't make a worthwhile experience at the cinema.
It's a mystery to my why the Lord of the Rings is such a popular literary work in the same why I never understood the Dungeons and Dragons phenomenon. This might make me sound like a hater of fantasy but I'm not. I love good fantasy stories which are done well. This is just a good looking coffee table fable with no substance.
When you take away the beautiful locations, fantastic imagery and CGI what are you left with? Just another extremely cheesy wizard against wizard story like something Jack Palance used to headline. Instead of being Excalibur (which Jackson steals from on more than one annoying occasion) or Dragonslayer this film is Hawk the Slayer or The Sword and the Sorcerer wrapped in gorgeous cinematography.
As good as Ian McKellen is in this film he cannot match the brilliance of Nicol Williamson and Ralph Richardson in Excalibur and Dragonslayer respectively. And Christopher Lee as a wizard we can remotely take seriously. Please.
This film is just not worth its praise. The acting is fine. The look of it as Ive said is at times fantastic. But the script is just aimless, choppy and devoid of clever story-telling.
Another addition to the bad movie file. Even that gawdawful Willow was better than this.

14:36 The chemistry between these guys are just marvelous xD. I want to run through an Irish field wearing a milkmaid dress to this song. This music feels like coming home to old friends. Anyone in 2020? I'm asking for this because if anyone sees this Have a Very Great New YEAR. The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies are great but if The Silmarillion comes as MOVIE it would be very Great.

You may be more right than you know. Tolkien may well have been a racial profiler. Good start for taking the franchise in a new direction. It is about time that WE, The Humans, got something to combat the Predators who have been hunting and Slaughtering us for eons! This time, WE have an advantage. No one commented on this video for 3 years dam. Well, I'd read "The Hobbit" and "LoTR" like most I guess. I found this movie a dreadful adaptation. Beyond the many just plain WRONG things that never occurred in the book, after the first 45 minutes or so, it was just plain boring. You know a movie is boring when you find your backside becoming uncomfortable in a seat. The pace, after the 1st 45 min. is pedantic. plodding. insufferable. The haphazard melange of characters almost invites one to need a "program" so that they know "who is who. Woe to you who've not read the book prior to seeing this colossal waste of celluloid (and computer clock cycles, in the case of the CGI.
On a positive note, the scenery was nice. But, I could go to any nearby State Park and be just as enthralled. for free.
Bottom line. I think you'd be more entertained by seeing "Johnny Neutron. or, dare I say it. Shallow Hal" shudder. br> Sorry LoTR fans. this one gets two big thumbs down. as well as all my toes.

Why didn't just take the ring to tom bombadil... I love ending credits of movies. Great musics. I remember back in the day that no one expected the LOTR trilogy to be as good as it turned out. The trilogy really was a game-changer with respect to the adaptation of high fantasy. It still remains to this day the gold standard in adapting works of fantasy.
