Review: When a young boy falls ill, his grandfather pops round to visit him. To cheer his grandson up, Grandpa has brought a storybook; The Princess Bride, a tale of the love between the beautiful Buttercup and the besotted Westley, a love cruelly interrupted by Westley's tragic apparent death at sea when seeking his fortune. Heartbroken, Buttercup has sworn never to love again, but accepts the marriage proposal of the rich and handsome Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin; but death is no barrier to true love, and in a story filled with exotically-accented swordsmen, big-hearted giants, genius kidnappers, sadistic torturers, vile swamps, Rodents of Unusual Size, the Dread Pirate Roberts and a somewhat embittered miracle worker, the love between Westley and Buttercup twists and turns on a path filled with adventure. Will the True Love of Westley and Buttercup win the day? Will Inigo Montaya find the six-fingered man who murdered his father? Will Humperdinck's evil plans come to fruition? And, more importantly, will Grandpa be able to tell the story without any of the yucky kissing?

Of course the sword fight is the best in movie history - witty as well as exciting. Princess Bride is one of those films that reminds you just how wonderful the movies can be. Why isn't it always like this? I could watch it again and again. The princess bride netflix. A gloriously witty fantasy film with its heart and soul in the right place. on its sleeve. All the performances are good (although Chrystal is too showy for my taste) but Patinkin's is exceptional. Also features an endearing performance by wrestling star Andre "The Giant. Special note should go to writer William Goldman, who does an almost perfect adaption of his wonderful novel. Reiner acquits himself well, particularly through the wit and style of the performances (some of them from actors who have not done work so good in the rest of their careers) but relies on close-ups a bit too much. Reiner should be credited, though, with letting the material speak for itself for the most part, providing fairly straightforward camera movement and positioning. Best scene for me. Elwes and Patinkin's classic duel atop the cliffs of death (or whatever they're called.

The princess bride 2020. Okay, so I'm an adult. I realize there have been better films made. But, I saw this film hundreds of times growing up and I can still watch it today and be just as entertained. Personally, I don't think Cary Elwes has done anything since that is as enjoyable to watch as his portrayal of Westley. I think it was geniusly cast. Robin Wright(later Robin Wright Penn) is very young here and her role is really secondary to Elwes' but, it's interesting to see her coming into her own. In my opinion, she actually goes on to do more interesting work. This film also has Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest(of A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, This Is Spinal Tap) Chris Sarandon and pro wrestling super star, Andre the Giant. How on earth can you go wrong? It also has Fred Savage(of Wonder Years) and Peter Falk as grandson and grandfather reading the story. Honestly, that's my least favorite part- the interruptions by Savage and Falk. Just give me more of Westley and Buttercup.
