This movie feels like it was wrote by a teenager. It is so melodramatic and self pitying, it is a disaster.
The main character is just so annoying and I don't even know. The opening scene told me everything about this character. His parents had left him post it notes all over the house because he clearly can't do anything by him self. But apparently he is the best teenager to have ever graced this earth so confusing.
There is just so much petulant behaviour it's so bad. He ends up loosing his places at collage because he blew up a school. There is no involvement of the police which once again is confusing. He then proceeds to record the most manic video about wanting to do things he wish he had done.
This is just so bratty and spoilt. He takes no responsibility about blowing up a school because he was being a stupid child.
Then when he is sad he sits and sulks in his back garden pool. I mean can he be anymore relatable.
Everything is just teeny and just oblivious to the real world.
The speech at the end. Jesus. It feels like it was wrote by a child who has been sent to his room after being told off. "Mom you just don't understand me. It's just trash.
It is 100% made for teenagers but it shouldn't be because it is like telling them to be like "drop out of college and just fart around doing nothing if you want to" that is not a good message.
In someways it's like a bad version of Booksmart (2019) in ways like he wants to do things he has missed out on doing. But booksmart handles it in such a good way and you like the characters because they are well drawn and thought out.
So in conclusion watch Booksmart.
I mean they mention child abuse, addiction, educational corruption, homelessness - but don't worry they only mention it. They blow right past it to the real dilemma; what 50k a year college am I gonna get into and turn down?
If you do make a horrible decision and your life is in pieces, try to become a social media sensation. Yeah, that makes just about perfect sense for a movie plot for Millennials.
I do get what the movie is supposed to be, and who it's for. It is for middle class white kids ages 15-30. The humor and parents parts were funny enough for a rating of 5/10. Just because I don't agree with its message in any way shape or form, doesn't mean that it's a 1 Star.
But, I gotta say I'd rather see the movie about the stuff they blew right past. Sending a message to kids today to just say "F" it seems almost like brain washing to me, and a tad bit irresponsible. The corrupt system that they gloss over in this movie would like you all to do that. So good luck with that.
The main character is a unlikable entitled d bag who is constantly whining. The writing is horrible. The parents are idiots because parents are dumb. The love interest is a boring and stupid girl that wants to become a model who is prostituting herself out. Bottom line is Netflix needs to start producing some quality content or I'm dropping it.
