Abstract=A dying Marcus Aurelius plans to name his loyal and brave General Maximus as his successor in order to restore the power of the Roman Senate. However, his power-hungry, jealous son Commodus learns of the plan, murders Marcus Aurelius, and plans to execute Maximus in order to secure his claim to the throne. Maximus escapes execution, but is sold into slavery and is forced to become a gladiator. Eventually, Maximus and his fellow gladiators are sent to Rome to perform for Commodus. Through his bravery he wins over the masses and reveals his true identity, much to the chagrin of Commodus. Can Maximus use his newfound popularity to avenge Marcus Aurelius' death, or will Commodus be able to keep the throne?. It's a Film for our entertainment well made but not REAL for those who look for any mistakes ITS ONLY A FILM OK DURRR. Absolutely no one: I'll carry the Cesar's body. Release the lions. The only sad part was he couldn't prolong that pricks death. I came here for the Battle Doggo. He's a Good boy, after all. Gladiator vs sparta. who wins. Gladiator is definitely my favorite movie. I like this version to show to friends for a first time to watch it... hard to understand otherwise... but I really like the 2nd version, untouched pretty much except the dialogue is removed... makes it much darker and more real. This version just re-enforces my feeling that Deckard HAS to be a human. they added those silly unicorn memories later. not in this one... Gaff did origami everywhere, he left that there to let Deckard know he had been there and decided to let them both go, because he thought she would die soon, and he figured Deckard earned it...

Thank you for uploading. I cheered at the top of my lungs when Commodus got killed to end this epic movie. nobody in the history of cinematography deserved it more than him. Is this movie meant to be a joke. A parody of what it could have been ? A motion picture that presumes to be (visually) a Roman Saving Private Ryan" but carefully avoids showing the horrors that were plain in Saving Private Ryan. Somewhere I get the idea that either producer or director must have thought. Yes great, let him charge into his opponent and hack his head of with one single mighty sweep. But, as we want as many spectators as we can get, let's put a tree between the audience and the guy who gets his head chopped off." So there you are, half the movie embedded in a semblance of violence that pretends to be shocking but isn't in the least. Which is acceptable if you're broadminded enough, after all there's the other half of the movie. Unfortunately the actors (with the exception of the revered Derek Jacobi) must have felt similarly about the "action" scenes, because they try with all their might to "act" their way through the rest of the movie. There's nothing as irritating as an actor being very aware of the fact that he's acting and showing it. See how good I am ? But even then : the story might be good. Which it isn't. The story of "Gladiator" is a flimsy excuse for a second rate B-movie plot. With excuses to anyone who ever wrote a B-movie plot. Did anyone actually get paid for writing this. Historically staggeringly incorrect hardly begins to describe it. Full of dead ends (let's not reveal the "plot" and dead dialogue. May I suggest something. Don't spend money to see it. If you really have to, wait until some channel puts it on tv and tape it (you don't want to watch it at 4 in the morning anyway, because that will probably be the time they broadcast it.

Gladiator. It conjures up images of honor, bravery, courage strength, and stoicism. One would think that a Hollywood movie would not be able to capture such qualities on film, sacrificing realism for the fluff, sex scenes, gratuitous violence and stilted weak plots.
Ridley Scott doesn't make that kind of movie. He brings to the screen a very realistic seeming portrayal of life as a Gladiator in the Roman Empire. Russell Crowe gave one of the most amazing performances of his career, bringing the title character to life, and managing to make Maximus real in just a few short hours.
Definitely a movie to see. It has subtlety for those who like to think in movies, but it also has action and betrayal for those who don't.
All I can say is, Thank you Mr. Scott. Keep 'em coming.

A spin-off should be made for Proximos epic fights. A dog casually walks past my house My chihuahua. Oliver Reed is magnificent. This is the Robin Hood TV series of the year 2000. Not a gentle movie, but full of good goodies and bad baddies and a bloody good time at the movies when you don't want to be intellectually challenged. Great good fun. Highly recommended for anyone over mid-teens. Absolutely verboten for the very young or sensitive.
