Sometimes we discover a movie apparently made by first timers that bubbles over with enthusiasm and loving care. This is one of those, and more surprisingly, not fueled by ingenues, but by film veterans. The fabulous costumes, stunning scenery, great singing, heartfelt acting, and strong script are very well done. This is one to watch every year, but you'll never forget your introduction to Volcano Man, JaJa Ding Dong, Lion of Love, and the Song-A-Long. I've always loved both Will Ferrell and Rachael McAdams ( hope I spelled her name right. I wasn't sure if i was into it at first but Will Ferrell. That's always a yes, so I watched and he delivered, as always, a stellar performance in his usual awkward yet lovable acting style. Oh and Ingrit was so sweet, so adorable and so full of love and compassion and loyalty to Larrs and to her hometown. I felt like crying and it wasn't what I expected to feel. I was on the edge of my seat, at times, the feelings were overwhelming. The ending, however, was so stunning, so perfect! I don't know how they create these movies. I'm in love with these two actors. As an aside, If Elf had been made with anyone other than Will Ferrell, it wouldn't have had such charm and the child like innocence that made it what it was. I'll leave it with two very enthusiastic thumbs up! Please keep going, Mr. Ferrell, you are a genius.
Well this one was an odd one. I wouldn't say the plot is amazing, neither did the acting impress me. However, I must say, for a musical comedy show, it really makes its mark. The underlying tones of stereotype jokes and middle school humour really makes this this a very light hearted film to watch. While there are points in the film that I do not enjoy and is very unrealistic, it all makes for a very fun film. The playful use of different pop music also really adds to the comedic elements of the film.
All in all, this film isn't going to win any awards anytime soon. However, if you're looking for a nice film to keep your spirits up and have a good time, give this one a try. Who knows? Maybe you might even learn a lesson or two.
