In addition to these new themes and custom TagCons, Bear 1.5 introduced “special searches” — you can now quickly find any of your untagged notes, notes with tasks, and any notes you’ve acted on today in any of Bear’s new special searches. Plus, Bear also now has a note archive — perfect for keeping notes you no longer need without having to delete them.

Agenda organizes notes by projects, which are part of categories. Notes for a particular project are displayed in the center of Agenda’s window, flanked by panels for navigating your notes. At the top of the window, there is what Agenda calls the ‘jump menu,’ which provides much of the same functionality as the left-hand panel, but is handy for navigating notes when that panel is hidden.

On the client side, from the Agenda app’s perspective, there are a number of premium features, each with a date of introduction. The client app queries the server for the license status. If no purchase has been made, all premium features are locked; if there has been a purchase, a feature is considered unlocked if the license expiry date falls after the introduction date.

What makes Agenda a little bewildering at first is its use of dates and projects, which sometimes makes it feel like a calendar app and other times like a task manager, even though it’s neither. The app doesn’t try to force you into a predefined system. Instead, Agenda gives you multiple ways to organize and view your notes through tagging, filtering, sorting, and searching. The upside is flexibility that should accommodate almost anyone’s workflow. The downside is that it can take time and experimentation to discover how it can work for you.

One more thing: There is a premium upgrade that includes a lot more features, like the ability to connect your Google calendar and get cool looking backgrounds.
